Going to Tokyo

I’m going on a class trip to Tokyo for the next three days. I’m taking a camera and some drawing stuff.
I will draw comics while I’m away, but I wont post them until later this week, probably not until Friday because I’m going on another field trip on Thursday.

This is a busy week.

Big Plans for June

Maybe if you follow me on twitter you noticed something about “big plans for June”. Here’s a list of random things happening in June: Spring musical show at school, school trip to Tokyo, MY BIRTHDAY (June 10), end of school year, start of summer school, and rainy season. So why not pile a personal project on top of all that.

For the month of June I’m going to do a daily journal-style comic. I like drawing comics and I’m self-absorbed, so this seems like the ultimate project. The goal is every day in June, if it goes beyond that, cool, if not, that’s cool too. I decided that these comics are going to brutally honest and uncensored, which means that for the time being they’re going to be password protected. Eventually I will go back and fully release them, but for now you’ll have to contact me for the password. Leave a comment or email me or tweet me or whatever.

A Triumphant Return

It’s been a well established fact, even before the earthquake, that my time in Japan was limited. I didn’t move here with the intention of staying forever and to some extent Japan was a detour before the “next step”. I decided on the next step last January and it lead me to plan to move back to Seattle this summer. Then there was a giant earthquake and my schedule got a little off. Things and money have finally sorted themselves out enough that I can say with 100% certainty that I will be leaving Japan on August 31st. I’m a bit of nerd, so I added a countdown timer to my blog. I’ll be watching those days tick away.

This brings me to my next point. I didn’t work for almost a month because of the earthquake, and I’m in one of those positions where if you don’t work, you don’t get paid. I’m fortunate enough that my basic living expenses are covered, but any savings beyond that are going to be small. To help fund my return to the States I made some vinyl stickers that I’m selling. The sticker sheet is six inches by four inches and has nine individual stickers.

People really liked my Space Madness robot so I thought that you guys might also like some stickers of him. I’m happy with how these turned out and if I can sell out the edition of fifty I’ll definitely design some others. One sheet is five dollars US. (If anyone is curious about the price, ordering a small numer of vinyl stickers is not super cheap.)

If you’d like to buy one or fifteen I have a Big Cartel shop and you can pay with PayPal. Even if you don’t buy any, I appreciate you reading this appeal for funds and putting up with my tweets about the stickers.

Vacation Photos

I was able to take a two week vacation to Seattle at the end of April. It was much needed and super refreshing. I’ve been back in Japan for about a week and I can already tell that the trip was totally worth it. I spent most of my time socializing with family and friends, so it’s not really worth blogging in detail. However, I’ve got some random photos that you might like.
